What is TOEFL?

The TOEFL test (TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE) measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings. It is an internationally accepted standard of academic English proficiency, and a TOEFL score is required as an admissions criterion by more than 6000 colleges and universities worldwide.Almost all the Universities in United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and United Kingdom use TOEFL to test their students. This is used to determine whether the students can enter into their university programs or attain scholarship

Where to appear for the Test?

The TOEFL test is to be taken at the specified test centers,.The test can be taken in three ways,namely,

  • Computer based(CBT)
  • Internet based(IBT)

  • Paper based(PBT)
Nowadays though,the Internet version of the test has grown in popularity because of the ease associated with taking the test in this way.

What sections does this test include?

The test consists of four sections:-
  • Section I: Listening Comprehension
  • Section II: Structure and Written Expression
  • Section III: Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary
  • Section IV: Essay Writing
The test contains some passages that you are required to read and then answer the questions that follow. After that, a lecture is given and you are required to answer some more questions. Some of the tasks will require you to answer verbally. You also have to write two passages. The tests are designed to reflect on the kinds of assignments that you will be required to carry out at the college level.
