IELTS scores required in Australia goes up!!
It has recently been announced by the Australian government that some dramatic changes to the immigration and education laws will affect the IELTS pass mark. IELTS, the International English Language Testing system from Cambridge University Press and administered in Australia by IDP is a must for many international people seeking immigration to Australia or entrance into a college or university.
The IELTS exam is extremely difficult for many speakers of English as a Second Language and it can take months of training and IELTS preparation lessons to be able to reach the pass mark of 5.5.
But many businesses in Australia believe that 5 or 5.5 is far too low for the level of English that they want and have lobbied the Government of Australia to increase the minimum pass mark to 7.
The Government has advised businesses and industry that if they wish to have a pass mark of 7 or 7.5 for their job applicants then they are free to set those standards if they wish.
The Government has also advised that from July 1st 2007 the IELTS pass mark will have a minimum requirement for immigration of a band score of 6.0. Examiners for the IELTS exam have also advised that the exam was redesigned for 2006, based on new research and so it is even harder for non-native speakers."A band score of 6 is extremely difficult for people who speak English as a foreign language", said an English Tutor in Sydney. "It is now even harder"
